Evening calm


One month since my stroke...


Well... After today I’ve only got one more weekend to get thru in here.  Is it just me? Or has it been 30° and sunny ever since I got here? I sure hope there’s more summer left for me when I get home… Can’t wait to sit in the backyard, spend time in the pool, hang out with the family, and enjoy some summer sunshine. I got a feeling my front crawl is going to need some work…🏊‍♂️  



It was great to see another familiar face today.  My buddy Paul Nicholson snuck down the hall to see me, as he was visiting his mother-in-law.

It has been such a huge relief knowing that the kids are well looked after this past month.  Through all the chaos, from getting back from Sault Ste. Marie until today, we’ve been lucky to have so much help from family and friends.  There’s no one we’ve leaned on more than Anneke.  Having her around has just given Jillian the freedom to spend more time with me, get caught up on work and catch her breath. This past week the kids were lucky enough to have Anneke take them up north to a cottage at Limberlost for the week.  Just north of Huntsville, we got plenty of great updates of what they were up to… It sure looks like the perfect week.

And then we got a fantastic drive-by visit…on their way home from the cottage.♥️

    So great to see you at your regular dining spot ... from an incredibly socially distanced spot of course. And we loved driving by your window with all the cards. You and Jillian are so well loved by so many. xoa

Friday July 31 Powerful  Finally!  The long weekend is here...Time to head up north and enjoy the great outdoors. Soak up some sun, jump in the lake, relax by the fire, take it easy.   Oh hang on… I’m in the hospital....🤕...and I’m right where I’m supposed to be.   Exactly 3 weeks ago this morning, I woke up in the hospital in Sault Ste. Marie and the left side of my body was totally paralyzed. Zero movement in my leg and foot. Zero movement in my arm and hand. Speech greatly affected.  Left side of my face frozen. You could draw a line right down the middle of my body… every square inch on the left side was numb.   BUT LOOK AT ME NOW! I’m not gonna lie… I’m pretty pleased with myself. 😊 It’s not something I was expecting to be dealing with right now, but I’m doing it. ⚡️FRANKENSTEIN 🧟‍♂️

Sunday July 26th Today was on of my legitimate visitor days. Jillian was here from about 4 to 6:30.  I also had a bonus visitor today, our friend Dallas Nicholson. Dallas’s mom is currently in the rehab wing as well, so she stopped in to say hi and have a chat on her way out.  It was great to see another friendly face from the outside world...every little bit counts. (forgot to take a pic). 🙄 Jillian has become the household barber since Covid began. I was overdue for another cut today.  What can’t she do? BEFORE AFTER Physiotherapist Jen introduced another new tool today, an electro stimulator.  Amazing what some electric stimulation can do.  I have not been able to extend my fingers since the stroke. But with the help of the simulator, the results are immediate and amazing.  It’s a good sign to see the nerves are still active....just a matter of rewiring. ⚡️IT’S ALIVE!!⚡️ Frankenstein 🧟‍♂️ Another Suggestion was to gather a collection of items with diff...

Mama’s Boy 👩‍👦

 Wednesday August 19th Mama’s Boy It was mom‘s turn to visit today. Another epic hug… More tears.... It was fantastic.  😭  Last time I saw mom was in the hospital in Sault Ste. Marie when she snapped this pic of a fine looking fella... Go figure… They start allowing visitors two days before I get out.  🤷‍♂️  I gave mom the usual tour, showing her all around my bachelor apartment.  Close your eyes now if you don’t want me to spoil it for you… All part of the journey... Home while I healed. Well tonight will be night 42 in the hospital. My last night in the hospital. It’s the end of this part of my recovery.  6 weeks.  Looking back, it’s safe to say I’ve come a long way.  But I’ve still got a long way to go. I know that I’ll get there. I just have to be patient. ♥️💪 For the last time, from 4North…  Goodnight! 😴
